Water Injection Technique (WIT)

Water injection technique is a variant of fluid injection developed at the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV), Aachen, Germany, in which water is used for production of hollow components.

This technique is particularly useful when rod-shaped components with larger diameters are to be produced. Due to the better cooling effect of water compared to gas, the cooling time and thus the cycle time can be significantly reduced when producing components with larger diameters. Furthermore, energetic savings can be realized, because less cooling by the tool is required. AKRO-PLASTIC has developed special materials for this supreme discipline of injection molding. We designate the materials with the abbreviation "WIT", if special attention is paid to the formation of particularly good surfaces inside. For example, the company Teklas produces components from our AKROMID® A3 GM 20/10 4 WIT black (4529), which are used in the engine cooling circuit of various automobiles.

The advantages of this material lie in the very easy processability of our AKROMID®, which has been specially optimized for the internal water pressure process. The material is used both in the mass-back-pressure process and in the side-cavity process and, compared to the competition, is able to form wall thicknesses that are up to 10 % thinner. It thus not only saves weight and CO2-emissions, but ultimately also our customers' money due to the reduced volume. Of course, our AKROMID® is able to meet the requirements of the most demanding OEMs in terms of cooling water resistance and dynamic strength. Please contact us if you have specific questions about this.
