ICX® Technology
Innovative Compounding and Extrusion technology
ICX® Technology
Increasing pressure on order lead times, consistent product quality, growing product variety and global availability at competitive prices shape the business environment for compounds. The key to meeting these challenges is to ensure that production is as flexible as possible. For this reason, we have developed the standardised machine concept ICX® Technology (Innovative Compounding and Extrusion Technology) in partnership with our sister company FEDDEM GmbH & Co. KG.
ICX® Technology is used at all our production sites worldwide and, using raw materials of the same quality along with our certified quality management and in-house test laboratory, ensures the unparalleled quality of our products. This concept leads to significant time and cost savings in material validation.

Batch Consistency
Besides the high batch consistency, our products also exhibit higher strengths than those of our market competitors. Thus the same strengths can be realised with a smaller proportion of glass fibres. This protects the machine technology and reduces wear. The Diagramm shows the glass fibre distribution of an AKROMID® A28 GF 50 9 black (5030) over 25 batches. The average of these 25 batches is 49.87%. The product specification is currently + 1,5%, whereby only a range of +0.5% is required in reality. In comparison, market competitors indicate +2% or +2.5% for their inspection certificate tolerances.

Working Methods and Maxima
Many details must be complied with in order to continually manufacture at this precision in a cost-effective manner:
Gravimetric dosing systems
Raw material silos in a dry-air atmosphere
Screws without kneading blocks
Low-wear extruder steels (HIP)
Preventive maintenance
Incoming goods inspection
Top-notch raw materials-

Compounding Technology
A good compound needs a good formula, constant raw material and excellent process technology. We can adapt our extruders to the formulas and not vice versa. As shown below, this allows us to vary the process length of our extruders typically between L/D 32 and L/D 52. So we can ensure a shorter or longer familiarisation period for the additives. Our mobile extension units can be mounted within a very short time, while the remaining peripherals in front of and behind the extruder remain unchanged.

Types of Pellets
Our formula-adaptable compounding lines allow the production of different types of pellets. Strand pellets or cylindrical pellets (1) are the standard processes for engineering plastics. Die-face pellets (2) are used for the biodegradable M·VERA® products from our BIO1 2 3 4 5 FED branch or for the pelletising of highly filled products with up to 70 % filling level (3). We use micropellets (4) for special processes, such as additive manufacturing, in order to ensure optimum intake be-haviour for small pelletising units. Long fibre pellets (5), made with the latest LFT technology allows us to produce rovings with very high strength products.
